PAXKAN - The Place Of Peace

MISSION: To provide transformative healing and inspiration through holistic practices and art, creating meaningful connections and enriching experiences for our clients and communities.

OUR VISION: We want to help people to embrace holistic well-being, bridge ancient wisdom with modern practices, foster personal growth and interconnectedness and create a harmonious world where balance, fulfillment, and self-discovery thrive.

PAX - KAN

(Pronounced: Pashkan)

PAX means “peace” in Mayan and KAN “the place of” in Nahuatl.

OUR STORY:

In 2016, we began offering massage therapy services to clients in their homes throughout Mexico City. As our skills and passion for holistic healing grew, we developed our first workshop, the “Therapeutic Massage Circle”, to share our knowledge with others.

Our community of healers and artists soon expanded to include offerings such as singing circles, ecstatic dance, cacao ceremonies, and women’s circles. We also became involved in hosting events and participating in festivals across Mexico and Guatemala, where we shared our unique blend of holistic therapies and artistic expression with diverse audiences.

In 2019, when the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to pivot our approach, we restarted our services online in Vancouver, Canada. Despite the challenges, we were determined to continue promoting healing, creativity, and personal growth. In 2021 we participated in hosting “The healing area” for festivals and have hosted several successful wellness events.

Today, we are located in Gastown Vancouver, where our community can find our services and events. We continue to offer our unique blend of holistic therapies and artistic expression.  Our goal is to create transformative experiences that connect us to ourselves, each other, and the world around us, and we are excited to welcome new members to our community.

“The art of healing comes from nature, not from the physician. Therefore the physician must start from nature, with an open mind.”

Tefa Vento

Interdisciplinary artist and therapist

Erika Retiz, also known as Tefa Vento, is a Mexican actress, therapist and hold a communication degree. She began her spiritual practice at the age of 15 by attending daily Kundalini Yoga classes alongside her theatre education. At the age of 18, Erika decided to study at the Mexican College of Massage and Holistic Nursing in Mexico City while continuing her career as a theatre actress. It was during this time that she started exploring other therapeutic disciplines such as Ayurveda, aromatherapy, massage, reiki, and meditation. Her training in acting allowed her to incorporate movement and body expression into her therapeutic practices. She also received training in anatomy and first aid, becoming certified in Mexico and Canada. During her acting career, Erika experienced two accidents that led her to undergo surgeries on her ankle and knee at different times, leaving her unable to walk for extended periods of time. It was during these processes that Erika delved into her own physical, emotional, and spiritual rehabilitation, and her complete mobility is a living testament to her medicine and constant training. She started her career as an online communication expert and graduated in 2019, as well as ventured into directing and producing theatre. She also pursued courses in coaching. During her journey, Erika became a part of many women's circles, sweat lodges, and ceremonies, where she fell in love with the medicine imparted from the wisdom of her Mexican cultural roots. Now, as a facilitator and promoter of ancestral medicine, she has found opportunities to help people from diverse cultures and ages through the use of cacao and medicinal chanting. Currently residing in Vancouver, Canada, Erika has had the opportunity to facilitate healing for people of various cultural backgrounds and ages. She is always grateful for the chance to expand her knowledge in her practice and takes great pride in her Mexican heritage as she shares the healing techniques of her culture. Erika is a true example of resilience and dedication to her craft, and she continues to inspire others with her passion for holistic healing and cultural wisdom. She believes in the power of integrating mind, body, and spirit in the pursuit of overall wellness, and she is committed to helping others on their healing journey. Her mission is to create a positive impact in the world through her holistic therapies and teachings, leaving a legacy of healing and empowerment wherever she goes.
